ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A man who shot a grandmother as she was trying to shield her grandchildren from gunfire is now headed to prison.
Jurors deliberated for one hour at the Carnahan courthouse in downtown St. Louis before returning a unanimous verdict of guilty of first degree murder against Tommy Dora, 22.
Dora and another man went looking for someone at an apartment complex on Hodiamont in north St. Louis in July of 2014. The two men set up on different sides in a location that they believed their target would walk through. But Juliette Cleveland-Davis, 46, and her two grandchildren were caught in the cross fire. The man they were shooting at was not hit.
A surveillance photo shows Cleveland-Davis shielding her grandchildren from the bullets. The Circuit Attorney says this photo and a witness who came forward were the keys to getting a conviction.
The other suspect in this crime, Errick Owens, previously pleaded guilty to second degree murder. Tommy Dora will be sentenced may 18th.
