(CNN) — Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Tim Murray is expected to resign his position to become the head of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, a source from Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration confirmed to CNN.
The Massachusetts source, who would only speak on the condition of anonymity, said the resignation is contingent on the chamber board approving Murray as the organization’s new head in a vote expected to take place today.
If the board approves Murray, he would be expected to “step down in the next week or so,” the source said.
A Democratic Party official in Washington confirmed Murray’s expected resignation.
The lieutenant governor has taken heat recently over questions about his relationship with the disgraced Chelsea Housing Authority director and campaign funding.
