MAPLEWOOD, MO (KTVI) - A Metro bus driver is in the hospital after an attack at the Maplewood/Manchester bus terminal. According to Maplewood police a 66-year-old man was on his route at around 5:30pm when the attack happened. That’s when witnesses say least 1 or 2 men got on the bus adding the driver was approached and told to give up bus transfers. The driver refused and he was suddenly attacked and beaten, he also somehow crashed into a nearby bus stop.  FOX 2 also spoke to Metro who says the bus is used as an employee shuttle, so drivers can change shifts. There were no paying customers onboard at the time only the driver.

Right now Maplewood police are checking surveillance video from the bus. So far they only have a description of a black male with a thin build between 20 and 30-years-old wearing dark clothing. The suspect also ran northbound on the Metrotrain tracks towards Brentwood after the attack.

The driver was taken to a local hospital where he was checked out. There's no word on his condition, but police say he was conscious when he left.

An investigation is ongoing.
