(CNN) – There have been many companies throwing their hat in the tablet industry ring. Microsoft has joined the ranks by unveiling their new tablet PC to rival the IPad.
As reported by CNN, Surface, the new PC tablet, is the first of its’ kind designed and sold by Microsoft. Surface will include a standard 10.6 inch high-definition touchscreen and front and rear facing cameras. Surface also has additional features not found on other tablets in the market: a full keyboard, a pen that clicks into the tablet and a built-in kickstand.
Surface will run on a new version of Windows called Windows 8 and on Windows RT. Windows RT runs on microchips designed by ARM , which are inside of 95% of the world’s smartphones and tablets.
The Windows RT version of Surface will be available sometime this fall in 32- and 64-gigabyte versions and will be priced “comparably” to other tablets on the market. The full Windows 8 version will be available three months later in 64- and 128-GB versions and will be priced “comparably” to ultrabooks currently available.
