BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) _ MidAmerican Airport Director Tim Cantwell will receive a performance bonus of more than $20,000.

The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/20jbkFM ) reports the St. Clair County Public Building Commission approved the bonus because Cantwell met passenger goals and added new tenants in 2015.

Officials estimated Cantwell’s base salary at $124,207.

The airport had 31,458 departing passengers last year. The only airline serving the field, Allegiant Air, added Las Vegas to its destinations.

It plans additional service this year to Fort Myers-Punta Gorda and Destin-Fort Walton Beach in Florida.

The airport ran a $900,000 operating deficit for the year, however. Public Building Commission Chairman Richard Sauget says officials are working on improving that picture.

County Board member Fred Boch says Cantrell’s goals should be re-evaluated for possible higher standards.
