ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- The Millennium Hotel St. Louis will close on January 22.

Hotel management made the announcement official Thursday.

Eighty hotel employees will lose their jobs.

The Millennium is working to move previously booked events to other hotels, while the city is already marketing the prime piece of downtown real estate to other hotels.

The hotel released this statement:

“The hotel has served the St. Louis community well for many years.  However, we have concluded that the hotel, in its current state, does not meet our standards and has not kept pace with guest demands,’” said Robert Rivers, Regional General Manager. “For these reasons we are evaluating our options. While no final decision has been made, we are committed to working with the hotel community in St. Louis to re-establish employment for our staff. We are also in discussions with these same hotels to relocate our guests to other fine establishments.”
