ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Missouri American Water is putting the finishing touches on an $11 million dollar upgrade to the water treatment facility located in Maryland Heights. St. Louis County has four water treatment facilities but the one located Maryland Heights is by far largest serving over 666,000 customers.
The project is part if a two year project worth an estimated $140 million dollars that is upgrading all four facilities. The major part of the upgrade is putting in new piping and pumping to meet the increasing demands of summer.
The original infrastructure was put in place in the early 1930’s. The project is being paid for by customers but Missouri American Water External Affairs Manager Ann Dettmer says, “The cost is spread out across a million people over years. Right now people are paying less than a penny per gallon of water.”
