WASHINGTON COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Is this a record breaking morel mushroom? A Park Hills woman posted a picture of an enormous fungus her husband found to Facebook. The image has gone viral, has been shared over 17,000 times. Many commenters responded with enthusiastic questions and praises.

The Ware family found the mushroom on a hunt near Old Mines in Washington County.  The Missouri Department of Conservation says the morel is 12 inches tall and the cap measures 13 inches in diameter.

The Missouri Department Of Conservation visited the Ware family Tuesday morning to record the measurements of the mushroom. The specimen could not be weighed due to it being soaked in water the last couple of days.
