(AP) – A southeast Missouri teacher is facing charges for the alleged sexual assault of a student.
KFVS-TV reports that 52-year-old John Mullins had an initial court appearance Wednesday. He did not have a lawyer and declined to answer questions from a reporter.
Mullins teaches high school and junior high science for the Naylor School District. He is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and two counts of sexual contact with a student. He is jailed on $100,000 bond.
A girl reported the crime on Friday. Her age was not listed in court documents.
She told authorities that she went to a supply closet and Mullins touched her inappropriately without her consent. The court documents say an exam led investigators to determine the girl had injuries consistent with forcible rape.
