ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Hurricane Sandy may be a bit weaker today but it is growing rapidly in size. It’s impact on the northeast may very well exceed that of hurricane Irene in 2011.

“Here in St. Louis, the local chapter of the American Red Cross began coordinating with national agencies to begin the process of putting volunteers on standby.” said Mary Anderson of the American Red Cross.

Specialized vans are ready to go along with their volunteer drivers once official word is given.

They were also busy making plans at Ameren-Missouri.  A spokesperson says more than 50 crews, including linemen and logistics personnel will be dispatched to the northeast from their central Ozarks facility early Saturday morning.

At lambert airport the departure and arrival boards showing flights are running on time to the big cities like New York and Boston; at least for now.
