ST. LOUIS – A homicide suspect was taken into custody in north St. Louis just after 9 a.m. Friday after refusing to come out of a home for about an hour.

A man was killed at about 8 a.m. after being shot multiple times in the Kingsway East neighborhood. The shooting happened in the 4800 block of Leduc Street. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has not yet been identified.

A standoff began briefly after officers responded to the home. Police say it wasn’t immediately known whether the suspect was alone in the home.

Police blocked off Leduc Street between Euclid and Marcus Avenues amid the tense situation. Officers wore protective vests, and one officer stood near the front porch of the house with a gun drawn. Eventually, the suspect walked out of the home with his hands up.

Investigators say a cool and calm approach helped bring thestandoff to a peaceful end. No shots were fired. Police have not released the name of the victim or suspect in the shooting death prior to the standoff. It’s also unclear what led up to the shooting death.
