Victim identified, person of interest in custody for mall shooting

UPDATE: The Major Case Squad tells FOX 2 that they have a person of interest in custody in connection with Saturday night’s fatal shooting at West County Mall.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The Major Case Squad continues their investigation into Saturday night’s fatal shooting at West County Mall.

Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Malachi Maclin of Florissant, Missouri.

The Major Case Squad has taken a person of interest into custody. At this time, the incident is believed to be an isolated event involving an altercation between two people.

Law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions responded to the scene around 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

Several FOX 2 viewers contacted our newsroom at that time to report a shooting at the mall.

Des Peres Police Chief Eric Hall said the shooting followed an altercation between two individuals inside a store at the mall. One person was shot and taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.

This is the second shooting at West County Mall in 2021. One man was arrested and charged in April for that incident.
