A license plate reader is what alerted police about a stolen vehicle in north St. Louis. After that, a crash and shots fired followed. Officers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop the driver around 11:45 a.m.
The driver fled eastbound on Dr. MLK Boulevard and encountered traffic at a gas station near Clara Avenue. Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle crossed the center turn lane into westbound traffic.
“Two vehicles were traveling westbound on Dr. King at the same time,” said Michael Sack with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. “The lead of the two vehicles pulled to the curb, and the stolen vehicle struck the front left vehicle that had curbed to avoid the accident.”
Gunfire followed the crash. Police say the driver was armed and shot by an officer. He was sent to a local hospital for treatment. Drivers and passengers from two other cars involved in the crash were also sent to a hospital for treatment.
This is a developing story. More details will be posted here as they come into the FOX 2 newsroom.
