ST. LOUIS – One person is in custody after a shooting around 9 a.m. Friday morning, involving St. Louis officers. Police believe a woman in her 40s was planning on shooting up the Social Security Administration building office in the 700 block of North 16 Street in Downtown St. Louis

St. Louis Metropolitan Police say that Homeland Security received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked near the social security office. They found a van parked in front of the building. The driver said she was going to shoot up the office.

The woman fired shots at officers after they told her to get out of the van. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says there were no injuries.

The woman is well known in the area. She claims to be a “sovereign citizen” and lives out of the van.

Police believe that a tragedy may have been avoided today. The woman was armed and expressed interest in shooting up the social security office.

The woman is currently being held at police headquarters in the homicide investigation office.
