ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Traffic will be an issue in the downtown area this weekend. Missouri Department of Transportation crews shut down all westbound lanes of Highway 40 Friday morning for double decker work.

The lanes won't re-open until 3:00 am on Monday.  One westbound lane will, however, open Saturday morning between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.  The 9th Street exit will be open for those traveling downtown for the "Race for the Cure."  On the eastbound side, only one lane will be closed for the weekend.

MoDOT says they want residents in Illinois and Missouri to take extra precautions in those areas.  "Read the signs and give yourself some extra time if you're going through the area”.

Traffic will also be affected in north St. Louis County. Crews will work on the Interstate 70 bridge over the Earth City Expressway.  Two eastbound lanes will be closed beginning Friday at 7 p.m. but should reopen by 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
