ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Heavy evening storms through the St. Louis metro area, Wednesday evening, caused some flooding in a familiar spot in Valley Park causing a nightmare commute for many drivers.
“I saw a large stream of traffic and I thought that’s kind of- at this time of the day- why is it backed up like that, but it happens” said Shirley Horvath.
MoDOT closed 141 in both directions at Interstate 44 around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday due to the flooding, causing backups for miles.
“Anytime it rains- I live up here on this hill- and it was basically the island of Fenton the past two years in a row so you know anytime it rains I hate that I have to think about whether or not I can get out you know so it’s just it’s annoying.” said Austin Ammons.
All lanes reopened around 7:30 Wednesday night. A MoDOT spokesperson said while not the sole focus of the project, the construction happening around 141 and Interstate 44 will hopefully help reduce the impact and duration of flash flooding events.
Highway 141, both directions, is shut down under Highway 44 due to flooding.
