CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI) - The countdown to summer is on. That means MoDOT is prepping for a busy season. This week marks, "Work Zone Awareness Week."

While MoDOT was preparing for this week they had to lay to rest one of their own. Lyndon Ebker was hit by a vehicle on April 7th while working in Franklin County.

Ebker was a 30 year MoDOT Veteran. He was working traffic control along Highway 100 between Washington and New Haven when he was struck and killed.

This week MoDOT wants to bring awareness to people like Ebker. The people are out there on the streets doing their jobs and putting themselves in very dangerous situations. This summer work zones will be everywhere. Almost every interstate in the area is under some kind of construction.

Drivers are also reminded of the 2012 move over law. It requires motorists slow down or change lanes when law enforcement, emergency or MoDOT vehicles are parked along the side of the road.
