The Project extending Highway 141 will be hosting the kickoff to the National Work Zone Awareness Week later this month. In just the last week, drivers have seen a two situations that point to what they're trying to stop. A driver was killed Friday morning when his car slammed into a MoDOT contractor's truck on Interstate 270.
Earlier last week, a AAA tow truck driver died when a hit & run driver crashed into him as he put cones on Interstate 70. The goal of the event Monday is to remind drivers to pay more attention when they see workers out along the highway.
Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez will be in St. Louis to talk about the issue. Signs will also be going up Monday to give drivers a chance to rate the work zones they're driving through. The signs will provide MoDOT information that can help make the zones a little safer.
