ST. PETERS, MO (KTVI) - Major Case Squad investigators are trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of a mother and her two children in St. Peters. All three victims were found inside their burning home.

They have been identified as Jenny Ayres, 37, Jordie Hines, 10 and five-year-old Jada Hines.

It all unfolded at a home on Elm Tree Street not far from Jungerman Road. This morning police are still guarding the scene.

Neighbors noticed the fire and called for help about 6 p.m. Thursday. When fire crews arrived, neighbors told them there could be people inside. Firefighters went into home which was filled with smoke and found the two children and their mother, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire officials say the two kids were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. The little girl used a walker to get around and that the little boy was outgoing with a lot of friends.

The Major Case Squad spokesperson says at this point the deaths are being considered suspicious and that a preliminary investigation did not reveal the cause of death. She tells us that there were no obvious signs of trauma on the mother or the kids.

But clearly there are enough questions surrounding the situation to prompt the ongoing intense police investigation.  Police said autopsies were conducted on Friday. However they did not expect to release any information about the cause of death until sometime on the weekend after they completed their investigation.
