ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - A mother faces charges after her two malnourished children were found locked in a closet in a south St. Louis apartment.

27-year-old Monique Winston allegedly to have locked her five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son in separate closets Wednesday, before she and her boyfriend left their apartment on Spring Avenue in Dutchtown for the day around 9 am.
Police found the kids more than six hours later, suffering from ringworm and malnourishment.

Officers heard screams coming from the apartment, when they responded to a call of children left alone.

Winston faces two counts of kidnapping, four counts of child abuse and two counts of child endangerment.
