Update:  Friday morning AMEREN will return the roadside memorial lawn mowing crew removed.

ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI)-- The mother of a man who died in a motorcycle accident last August wants to know why his memorial site was removed along Tower and Dingledine Roads in St. Charles.

Family and friends of John Gomez, 20, built a memorial at the site of his death. It was there on Memorial Day, however by Tuesday it was removed and the area mowed over.

According to Gomez' mother Kitty Todd, the site which is located on land owned by Ameren was mowed over by a new landscaping company. Now the family wants the steel cross that marked the site returned.

"This was the place that I found my solace. This was where I felt closest to me,"
said Todd.

FOX 2 contacted Ameren regarding the situation and at this point they're tracking the cross down and have plans to return it to the family as soon as possible. We'll keep you posted on this story.
