SOUTH ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - One man is dead after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a school bus that pulled in front of him.  It happened on Morganford at Blow.  Witness Mark Goodwin said it happened in the blink of an eye, "He didn't have a chance to react at all. It was horrific."

Lt. Carlos Ross with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police said, "The motorcyclist doesn't appear at fault at all."

The motorcyclist was 53-year-old Rick Axeslon, an auto mechanic.  His boss, David Windmueller said Axelson was a terrific man, "He was good hearted, always laughing, always joking with everybody he was just a really nice guy."

Twenty-six students in grades kindergarten through 8th were on the bus, they attend St. Louis Charter School. One adult was also on the bus.  None of them was injured.  The 45 year old female bus driver was taken to the hospital.  Counselors offered help once the youngsters arrived at school.

Goodwin said seeing the crash was disturbing, "That's pretty much the worst thing I've ever witnessed."

Police said the bus driver was trying to make a correction when the crash occurred, "She was attempting to go back to the location where she missed her stop."

Witnesses believe there may be a lesson in this horrible tragedy for all of us.  Mark Goodwin said, "Keep an eye out for motorcycles there's too many people out here dying because people don't pay attention."

His brother Mike Goodwin added, "I mean it's school (time) it's still nice weather you have to watch for everything."'

The bus company, Go Ahead North America released a statement in which officials said, they are deeply saddened by the incident and safety is the company's number one priority. The company is investigating and will cooperate with police.  Their thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family.  The bus driver will not be behind the wheel.
