ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Through the first six months of 2015, crime is up in most categories compared to last year. The numbers on homicides are particularly troubling.
According to a newly released monthly report by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, 92 people have been killed through the first half of the year in neighborhoods across the city. That’s compared to 58 murders over this same period in 2014 – an increase in 58.6 percent. June, in particular, saw a 267 percent increase in homicide compared to June 2015.
The department’s 91-page crime report details criminal incidents in all 79 city neighborhoods and other jurisdictions.
Burglary and larceny are up nearly 11 percent across the city; robberies are up 40 percent; vehicle theft is up almost 15 percent; and aggravated assaults with a gun increased by almost 18 percent.
Rape (-12 percent) and arson (-11 percent) are the only categories to see a drop.
