(CNN) - The saying goes, "music soothes the soul." Some say it can help physical issues as well. Music therapy is gaining national attention and might soon be recognized as a medically licensed profession.
It’s said music was an integral part of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s recovery. Some hospitals are now hiring music therapists, who play requested songs for patients undergoing treatment for everything from cancer to Alzheimer’s.
Many say it serves as a pleasant distraction.
