ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Area hospitals are seeing an increase in the number of children being treated for a nasty virus.

Doctors say they see it every year at this time but this year seems to be a bit worse. In some cases the illness is Rhino Virus, in others it`s Enterovirus 68.

The virus causes fever, sort throat, a runny nose, and other respiratory issues.

St. Louis Children's Hospital says it’s seen an increase in patients and Cardinal Glennon says its cases are up 50 percent.

But it’s not just kids, adults can also get the virus.

There is no cure or vaccine, doctors treat the symptoms.

The St. Louis County Health Department is investigating.
