National Weather Service improving tornado warnings

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The National Weather Service is improving its warnings for severe weather. The average lead-time for when a Tornado Warning is issued is getting a lot better. The warnings allow time to take action.

There is an average of 1,250 tornadoes per year nationally. The St. Louis region sees around 15 tornadoes per year. So when we hear tornado warnings, our ears perk up.

There are a lot of Tornado warnings issued locally. Since 2012 there is an average of 26 per year.
