ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A mid-morning fire heavily damages a family’s home in north St. Louis. The fire happened in the 5900 block of Theodore Avenue Sunday morning just before 10 am.

According to St. Louis Fire Department Captain Garon Mosby, the fire started on the first floor of the three-story flat and spread the basement. The family in the home managed to escape, after being alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm. No one was injured in blaze.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the family did say they were using extension cords in the room where the fire started, because the room did not have functioning outlet.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with food, shelter, and clothing.
