FERGUSON, MO (KTVI) – Shoppers in Jennings stopped and stared as a row of Humvees carrying members of the National Guard entered a police command center.
“It looks like someone is getting ready to go to war,” said taxi cab driver Kirk Sims.
Governor Jay Nixon said the deployment would have a narrow mission. He said the National Guard would be used to help protect the police command center. They helped setup roadblocks around the command center and walked the perimeter with military dogs.
Minnie Dukes came to Ferguson to try and hold hands and pray with anyone willing to listen. She was heartbroken over seeing peaceful protests spoiled by violence.
“I never thought I would see anything like this,” said Dukes.
