NORTH ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Some north St. Louis apartment tenants woke up to surprise water back up on Sunday morning. We talked with tenants from two units of the St. Louis Brewery apartments who showed us photos and video of the problem in their 1st floor apartments.

The apartment building is located near 20th and north Madison Streets.

Petra Robinson was staying with her mother when she says sewage water came up through a drain by a wash machine and through the bathtub and toilet.

She says her mother is now hospitalized, overcome by ankle-deep water.

"Mentally she couldn`t handle it," said Robinson.

Renee Williams lives next door and showed us photos of the water that came up through her bathtub and toilet.

She slid phone books under her couch to try and protect one of the few pieces of furniture she owns. Williams is a section 8 tenant.

"I feel like because I'm on section 8 they might not even care," said a tearful Williams.

Robinson says her mom pays nearly $900 a month for her unit.

"Someone should have responded quicker," said Robison.

Both tenants say it took about three and half hours before anyone responded. We tried contacting an apartment spokesperson on Sunday but were unsuccessful.
