ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Police are investigating after an off-duty police officer from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department crashed into a parked car Thursday morning in south St. Louis.

The collision happened around 5 a.m. in the 4500 block of McCausland Avenue. Authorities say he was operating his personal car when he crashed into a fire department vehicle and came to rest on the lawn of the residence.

The officer has been identified as Jeffrey Trares, 37, with over 13 years of service.  He was arrested and released pending application of warrants.

Internal Affairs is handling the incident as a criminal DWI case as well.
