CHICAGO (AP) _ Chicago police say an officer has fatally shot a person in a confrontation on the city’s West Side.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement that officers saw a vehicle Monday matching the description of one sought in connection with an earlier shooting. The statement says officers tried to stop the vehicle, and a person fled on foot.

Police say a brief foot pursuit ensued, leading to an “armed confrontation” between the person who fled and an officer. According to police, the officer fatally shot the person, and no officers were injured.
