OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Police in Oklahoma are speaking out about last week’s hostage standoff at a Walmart.  A man held a two-year-old girl hostage, until police shot and killed the suspect. The whole thing was caught on the store’s surveillance video.

Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes describes last week’s hostage situation as a scene from a movie.

” You’ve got the ingredients of a two and half year old helpless victim, you’ve got a mother who has to standby helplessly and watch as her daughter is being held by a mental patient with a knife and you have our officers responding.” said Police Chief Brandon Clabes.

Surveillance cameras at the Midwest City Walmart rolled as the suspect, Sammie Wallace, took a two year old child from a shopping cart and held a knife to her stomach.

Not knowing what was going to happen shopper terry parker sprang into action blocking Wallace with his cart until police arrived. Moments later the building was evacuated and negotiations started. Chief Clabes says negotiation efforts failed and wallace started a countdown to harm the child. When he got near zero a negotiator shot Wallace.

Terry says he is not the hero. He is just glad the little girl is OK.
