ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The winds were so strong Wednesday morning that it blew the cover off a sign from a store that closed over two decades ago.
Venture a guess as to what got whipped around in Wednesday’s wind that spilled onto social media?
Why it’s the old Venture sign!
The St. Louis-based retail store closed due to bankruptcy in 1998.
This particular north St. Louis County store at Dunn Road and Interstate 270 became a Kmart, which eventually closed as well.
Wednesday’s blustery day brought back this old Venture sign and a lot of nostalgia for St. Louisans.
With a wind advisory in effect for most of Wednesday, St. Louis-Lambert International Airport reported winds at 63 mph.
The exposed sign whipped up a lot of memories online for St. Louisans, who saved with style at the discount department stores.
On the Fox 2 Now Facebook page, thousands of comments came in just in time for Thanksgiving eve, at a time when many are already in a nostalgic mood.
The old Venture store at Dunn Road and 270 will become a U-Haul location in the near future. And the old Venture sign is expected to be fixed.
