SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CNN) – A horrific accident leaves a six-time Olympic gold medalist in the hospital.

The family of former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken says an ATV crash in Arizona completely severed her spinal cord.

In swimming Amy Van Dyken was hospitalized in Scottsdale, Ariz., after suffering injuries from an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle Friday.
