ST. CLAIR, MO (KTVI) – A 15-year-old died Friday morning after being hit by a car while he stood  on the side of the road.  He was waiting for the school bus.

Missouri Highway Patrol says Donald Tipton, of St. Clair, Missouri died on the scene at Highway 30 and Highway 47 just outside of St. Clair, Mo.  shortly after 7am.

Street racing may have been a factor in the crash.  Authorities say Ethan Humphries, 23, of Londell was driving too fast for the rainy conditions and lost control of his car. He traveled off the right side of the road and hit Tipton and a mailbox before his car overturned.  A 14-year-old inside Humphries’ car was also injured.  She was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Humphries is hospitalized in serious condition. He has been charged with DUI and manslaughter.

A few others may also be charged in connection with the fatal accident.  They were driving other vehicles that were “running” together, recklessly.   According to a Missouri Highway Patrol Arrest report Kevin Ryan, 27 of St Clair, MO is charged with involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and speeding.   He is currently being held in Franklin County Jail.  Ryan did not hit the teen but he was driving recklessly in another vehicle “running” with Humphries’ vehicle.  A third driver in another vehicle may also be charged.
