OVERLAND, MO (KTVI) – A church in Overland honored first responders and veterans Sunday.

FOX 2's Shawndrea Thomas reports this special event took place at the Church of Adullam, to show its appreciation for police and veterans both past and present.

The event was a way to remember and honor those who put their lives on the line on a daily basis.

Pastor, navy veteran and retired St. Louis city police sergeant Clarence Hines says he wants to thank them for their service and sacrifice.  Officers from surrounding departments lead prayers and spoke to parishioners.

Pastor Hines also says he`s hopeful that the public will get a better understanding of what it takes to serve as a protector of the community.
