Overnight shooting leaves Mascoutah man wounded

MASCOUTAH, IL (KTVI)- Police in Mascoutah are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man wounded. Around 1:35am, police were called for a person shot at a home on South Market Street. When they arrived, officers found a 51-year-old man shot in the chest.  He was rushed to a Belleville hospital and eventually transferred to a St. Louis hospital for more care.

Police say that it appears the victim was shot inside the home during a possible burglary. The man has just moved to the home and it may have appeared unoccupied to a burglar. There is no description of a suspect.
