HIGH RIDGE, MO (KTVI) - A Jefferson County property owner is shocked over the theft of a stainless steel vault gate.  Dave Walters recently purchased a building on High Ridge Blvd.  He says the building housed a bank in the 1950’s.  The stolen gate was part of the old vault.  Walters says it appears someone forced their way into the building and stole the custom made gate.

“It’s frustrating because I’d really like to bring this building back to its prime,” said Walters.   “It was a very ornate piece that is an integral part of this building.”

Walters is offering a $500 reward for the return of the gate.  He says the reward will be paid, even if no charges are filed in the case.

“It’s a part of the history of High Ridge.  It’s a part of history for this building, and I’d like to see it restored back to the way it was,” said Walters.

The gate was stolen sometime between the last week in February and the 1st week in March.  Walters has alerted pawn shops, scrap yards and police, but so far there are no leads.  He plans on turning the building into a classic car showroom, and wants to use the vault area to store parts for classis cars.

The gate is about 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall.  It has carved balls on the top and scroll work on the front.

“It’s very heavy,” said Walters. “It would probably take 2 people to actually lift and carry it.”
