Parent upset over care for son after being punched in the eye

FLORISSANT, MO (KTVI) – A 7th grader is sucker punched and a mother is upset over the care her son received after the incident.

The incident happened Monday at the Ferguson Middle School just after lunch.

No one disputes that Mikel Monroe was punched in the eye, but did school administrators provide the proper medical care. The mother of Mikel, said her son was in the nurse’s office for over an hour before he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Instead, Mikel was still in the nurse’s office.  School officials are very limited on what they can say regarding specific details, but tell us with a parent on the way, the policy is to wait for them to arrive.  Beyond that, they say their details of the facts don't totally match the families, and they say school officials handled things the right way.

The punch was so vicious, that the student may lose some eyesight.  But for now, he’s wearing an eye patch awaiting surgery to be done on his eye.
