VELDA CITY, MO (KTVI) - Police officers in Velda City are still waiting for their most recent pay check.

The officers were supposed to get paid on July 1. Nearly a week later, they’re still waiting.

Velda City Police Chief Dan Paulino said the reason officers have not been paid yet is because of the holiday weekend.

An email Paulino sent out to officers said the city did not receive its usual tax money from various sources due to the holiday; therefore paychecks would not be available until Tuesday, July 5.

Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Paulino said they hoped to have the paychecks by Thursday or Friday at the latest.

Fox 2 News has heard from some officers that their paychecks have bounced in recent pay periods.

Paulino could not confirm that information.

In his email to officers, Paulino said he was willing to help them financially if this was causing a true emergency hardship.
