ALTON, IL (KTVI) – A 24-year-old East St. Louis man was killed late Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a car on an Alton highway.

Authorities in Madison County said the incident took place just before 6 p.m. in the 1700 block of Homer Adams Parkway. The victim, identified as Benjamin George, was struck by a westbound vehicle while trying to cross the roadway on foot.

George was rushed to St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton and pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.

Detectives said George was staying at a Super 8 Motel near the accident scene.

The Madison County Coroner’s Office determined George died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
