MADISON COUNTY, Ill. - The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has a person of interest in custody for the murder of Edwardsville attorney Randy Gori. Gori was a well-known philanthropist and attorney in the Edwardsville area.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Gori’s home on Mooney Creek Road around 9 p.m. on Saturday. They found Gori’s body dead at the scene. Investigators have not released a cause of death.
A 2020 Rolls Royce SUV belonging to Gori had been taken from the residence. On Sunday afternoon, the sheriff's office announced it had located the SUV.
Gori was a very successful attorney but also gave a lot back to the community. Since his death, social media has been flooded with people saying kind things about Gori and his generous spirit.
Edwardsville Mayor Hal Patton released the following statement Monday morning:
"We are struggling to get our heads around this sickening and senseless murder. Our hearts go out to Randy’s family and to his loved ones. I knew Randy as a friend and a tireless businessman. He was heavily involved in our Downtown Edwardsville revitalization, but more importantly, his investments were secondary to his philanthropy. Randy and his firm gave generously of their time and resources to causes for which Randy was passionate. From a local family in need to causes fighting cancer, Randy would always step up because he truly cared about others.
"The City of Edwardsville will offer any and all of our resources to the County and Major Case Squad in their efforts to apprehend the person or persons responsible for this despicable act."
The Major Case Squad announced a Monday afternoon news conference to provide additional information on the investigation.
This investigation is still ongoing and if you know anything you are asked to contact the Major Case Squad at 618-296-5544.
