Police chase ends in crash in Sauget – Two in custody

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – A police pursuit in the Metro East ended on Route 3 near the Poplar Street Bridge. Two suspects were taken into custody and one of them had been shot by police.

The chase started as US Marshals attempted to serve a warrant in Cahokia Friday around 9:50 a.m. As they approached the house, two people ran from the residence and took off in a Nissan SUV.

At some point during the brief pursuit, a member of the marshal task force fired a shot, striking one of the occupants of the SUV.

The SUV crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer near 8th Street in Sauget. Both suspects attempted to run away from the scene but were apprehended

The suspects have not been identified.

The wounded individual was taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The Illinois State Police is leading the investigation.

No officers or pedestrians were injured.
