ST. LOUIS (AP) – St. Louis County police say a pedestrian was killed by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 26-year-old Robert Killian died at a hospital shortly after the accident Wednesday night.

Police say Killian was trying to cross a road at a crosswalk near his home when he was hit by a vehicle, which then made a U-turn and left the area.

Police say the area was poorly lit, and Killian was wearing blue jeans and a black coat.

Authorities say a witness described the vehicle as a dark-colored sport utility vehicle with rust near the rear, passenger-side wheel well.
