ST. LOUIS – Police are still searching for suspects Thursday morning after a man was killed, an infant was injured, and two others were injured in a shooting in north St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the shooting happened in the area of North Kingshighway near Bircher in the Mark Twain neighborhood. Investigators told FOX 2 the shooting happened just before 5:30 p.m. when all four were inside a black Nissan Rogue SUV. Investigators said they believe the incident was a targeted shooting.
Police said the victim’s vehicle was basically boxed in with multiple shooters opening fire on it in broad daylight.
A young man was shot multiple times in the torso and killed, according to police. Investigators said an adult woman who was driving and a 14-year-old girl who was a passenger were both shot in the extremities. A three-month-old baby was hit with shrapnel. The baby has non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said all three injured were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. The victims have not yet been identified.
Lt. Colonel Ronnie Robinson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said there is reason to believe this was a targeted attack.
“There was a vehicle in front of the victim’s vehicle, and a vehicle in the back. The vehicle in the front blocked the vehicle with the victims in it and the vehicle in the back pulled up behind, and the shooters got out. We believe we’ve got multiple shooters at this time but we don’t know exactly how many,” Robinson said.
A woman who asked to remain anonymous said she witnessed what Robinson confirmed.
“He waived to the car in front of the victim’s car, he waived to that man and told that man to go head-on, after more or less letting them know, the job was done,” she said.
No suspect information is available at this time, but Robinson said those responsible for the violent crime are a threat to the public.
“At this point and time, we have the notion that it’s a targeted event. All we can ask is the public be the extra eyes and ears in the community. Hopefully, they trust us enough to work with us and make sure we do the right thing to keep them anonymous and safe,” Robinson said.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is handling the investigation. Police are also investigating a second deadly shooting in north St. Louis Wednesday evening in the Walnut Park East neighborhood. It’s unclear whether the two incidents are connected.
Police are asking the public for help. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers to remain anonymous at 866-371-TIPS.
