MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – A 44-year-old man died hours after he was found unconscious at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater late Wednesday evening.

According to a spokesperson for the Maryland Heights Police Department, medical personnel found the man around 11:10 p.m. on the concrete pathway between the seats and the lawn area in the amphitheater shortly after the Dave Matthews Band concert had ended.

Investigators said he was suffering from at least two head injuries. The man was rushed to a local hospital where he died several hours later from an apparent head injury.

The man was at the Dave Matthews concert with his wife.

Police did not identify the man but a Jefferson City media outlet identified him as Jasen Smith in a report featuring information from his wife, Darcy Smith.

Darcy told authorities her husband went back into the amphitheater after the concert to get a shirt that they had bought and had been left behind. When Jasen didn't return, the woman called his cellphone and a first responder answered. That's when Darcy went back inside and saw medical personnel around her husband.

Authorities said it's unclear what happened to Smith. An autopsy is set for this weekend.

"Suspicious meaning 'unknown at this time.' We don't believe there's a threat to the public, that's for sure. We are treating it as a suspicious death because we do not know at this time. We're hunting down or we're tracking down all leads and looking into all possibilities," said Maryland Heights Police Detective Shane Monnig.

Monnig said investigators have no witnesses so they are asking anyone with information or who might have seen what happened to come forward.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Maryland Heights Police Department at 314-298-8700.
