ALORTON, IL (KTVI) - The St. Clair County Task Force is investigating the death of a 6-month-old girl.

Officers responded to an area hospital for a report of an infant death on Monday around 6 a.m. The child, identified as Mariah McCorkle, was pronounced dead at Touchette Regional Hospital. It's unclear if she died at the hospital or her home in the 4700 block of McCasland Avenue.

Authorities close to the investigation confirmed that the family lost another child four years ago under similar circumstances. The St. Clair County Coroner is expected to release the results in the next few days.

Detectives at the Alorton Police Department said they are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation and are still waiting on the official autopsy results to determine if the case will be forwarded to the State's Attorney's Office.
