RIVERVIEW, MO – Family members of victims are reeling after a double homicide at an apartment complex in North County.

Authorities were on the scene for hours investigating.

“It’s a tightknit community. We all know each other and for this to happen…we’re trying to figure out who and why,” said Nick Reid, a resident of the Chevelle Apartment complex.

St. Louis County Police and Riverview authorities worked to answer those same questions after a call about a shooting around 1:30 p.m.

“Very shocking… it throws me for a loop. It makes me want to get up and move,” said Reid.

Crime scene tape blocked off the Chevelle apartments for hours after the shooting. A man and a woman were both pronounced dead at the scene.

People who live in the complex said there have been multiple acts of violence there recently.

“Not again basically. We keep going through this and getting over it,” said Reid.

The female victim’s niece, Latonia Jones, said this tragedy was foreshadowed.

“Well, I dreamed it three days ago. I don’t know how spiritual anyone else is, but I know where I stand with the Lord,” said Jones.

Police have not confirmed the identities of the victims, but the family described the female victim as spiritual.

“My auntie was a beautiful soul, a beautiful spirit, loved her people, loved her family, loved her children, now he doesn’t have his mother or his father,” said Jones.

Family members wept and embraced one another at the scene. Police have released little on a possible motive for the homicides, but the family wanted to drive this message to women at home.

“Any woman dealing with domestic violence, please get out of it. Get out of it,” said Jones.
