EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – The search is on for two suspects after an armed robbery early this morning on campus at S-I-U-Edwardsville. But S-I-U-E police tell us that armed robbery was not a random attack.
They say one of the two suspects and the student who was robbed knew each other and were involved in an illegal transaction.
Police won`t go into further detail but they do say the illegal transaction never happened because of the robbery.
It all went down a little after 1:00 a.m. Monday.
Investigators say two suspects robbed a 20 year old male student at gunpoint in a hallway inside Cougar Village Building 402.
That`s one of the on-campus apartment buildings at S-I-U-E.
The suspects were last seen walking down nearby cougar lake drive.
Authorities believe the suspects left campus after the armed robbery.
They only got away with a small amount of cash and the student who was robbed was not hurt.
Police tell us the suspects are two black men in their 20`s.
They are both around six feet tall with thin builds.
One was wearing a black jacket and stocking cap–he had the handgun.
The other had on a gray coat and a stocking cap.
Campus officials did sent out emails to students and others telling them about what took place.
S-I-U-E police are offering escorts to students who may feel uncomfortable.
