ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – If you`re hitting the roads during the upcoming St. Patrick`s Day weekend, be ready to see more law officers on the streets.
All kinds of law enforcement agencies are stepping up enforcement efforts starting today and tonight.
The increased enforcement will range from things like more officers on the roads to sobriety checkpoints.
Among the departments taking part in this campaign–St. Louis city police, Clayton police and authorities in Creve Coeur.
Clayton police tell us this morning that they will be adding additional patrols through St. Patrick`s Day on Sunday starting tonight.
City police Chief Sam Dotson says St. Louis city officers will be doing all they can to crack down on drunk driving.
And in Creve Coeur, police there will conduct a sobriety checkpoint tomorrow night.
The Missouri Coailtion for Roadway Safety says similar operations will take place statewide this weekend again starting today.
Statistics show that last year in Missouri 231 people were killed and nearly 850 were hurt in crashes involving alcohol and drugs.
Numbers also show statewide police nearly 600 DWI arrests in August and September of last year.
